Can't airports come up with other alternatives than pat-downs through security checks?

I've seen articles now about those inappropriate touching when going through security checks and even the workers there are searching around the private areas. Didn't the people who ordered those kind of pat-downs even think about how inappropriate that is or how uncomfortable it would make people? How would they like it if they had their groped or their privates felt around? Come on, I know they're trying to make people safe and some have figured out a way around packing explosives in the most obvious like backpacks such as hiding them in their bras and underwears but really, this has gone too far. Even further than what happened on 9/11. Isn't going through security checks supposed to be a bit more comfortable than feeling like you're going through a strip search? Airports are going to lose a lot of travelers if they keep up with this. How come not every airport have a scanner and they go through the inappropriate pat-downs instead? The staff there need to think about not just security but how they make people feel. Right now, it feels like they don't care about how they feel and they're free to grope people wherever they want. Before you know it, you'll have child molesters, rapists, ual abusers and people who have high drive working at the airports!
