Is Augmentin a good antibiotic?

I have a pretty bad sore throat and a drainage with some color to it. I do not have a fever but I feel like crap. I have a prescription for Augmentin 875MG twice a day. I just took the first one a munute ago. Is this antibiotic a very good antibiotic for such symptoms?
