How do I properly store a kerosene lantern?

Yrs ago, we used kerosene lanterns daily on the farm. To preserve it..leave some kerosene in the reservoir, to prevent rust. Check the bottom of the reservoir on the outside for rust. Clean the wick & globe, & it is ready to store. I keep one hanging in the garage. If the electricity goes off, it is ready for use.
